KILAUT

The KILAUT is a large frame drum of the Inuit, inhabitants of the Arctic North from Greenland to Alaska. It is traditionally made from a narrow hoop of wood or animal bone and any one of a variety of animal membranes: The Kilaut is used for both social and sacred purposes and is sounded by striking either the skin, the frame, or the handle. My Kilaut is fitted with a very responsive thin goatskin that can be set in motion by the pressure from one's breath.

"Dr. Dryer and I have been using your Kilaut in our shamanic initiation work for over a year now and thought it was time to share with you our excitement about the drum you made for us. Much could be said about the acoustic properties of such a large frame drum, the phenomenal pitch range, the depth and richness in the sound, but in the end what we most want to say is that it has moved us. Your Kilaut has a spirit that opens pathways to the infinite. We love it. Thank you for creating such a marvellous and mysterious instrument."
